九日のあいだ、パリスはメネラオスにもてなされた。十日目、メネラオスが母方の祖父カトレウスの葬礼のためクレタへ発つと、パリスはヘレネを口説いて連れ出した。ヘレネは当時九つだった娘ヘルミオネを捨て、財産の大半を船に積み、夜のうちに彼と船出した。
